Project Description

GOAL: To create a conceptual design plan for the City of Easton to reimage and better connect the Delaware River and Lehigh River waterfronts.

As one of Eastern Pennsylvania’s rapidly growing areas, Easton’s history, ecological setting, geographic location, and potential for extensive accessibility create a unique waterfront opportunity. In recent decades, Easton has transformed its waterfronts into a popular destination. This planning effort aims to continue that progress, improving the riverfronts to align with the city’s aspiration for a vibrant, accessible, and active space. Key focus areas include improving user experience, recreational opportunities, and pedestrian flow, particularly with the growing downtown population.

Our Team performed an inventory and analysis evaluation of existing riverfront greenspace and infrastructure, a broad look at the community, downtown, and future planning/development. A series of suggested design interventions specifically related to trail connectivity, direct water access, flood resilience, and the revitalization of existing infrastructure will then be identified that promote enhanced riverfronts. To illustrate the integration of these design interventions as an overall vision, EPD will produce a concept plan of the collective riverfront area. The concept plan will visualize the long-term goals and function as a road map for future programming and investment.
