South Shore Riverfront Park

EP&D, leading a large consultant team, developed the South Shore Riverfront Master Plan and subsequently provided construction document and administrative services. The South Shore Riverfront Park adjoins the Monongahela River and the SouthSide Works, a 130-acre brownfield site with over 1.3 million square feet of mixed use development under construction. The objective of the South Shore Riverfront Master Plan was to develop a memorable, authentic and universally accessible gathering space which connects SouthSide Works visitors and residents to the river, Three Rivers Heritage Trail and adjacent South Side Riverfront Park.

The South Shore Master Plan includes several public spaces including the Piazza (a large plaza with informal entertainment areas), RiverPlace (includes an amphitheater), a River Landing (with riverboat and taxi stops), the Riverfront Esplanade (a walkway with overlooks, the Siding and a future marina). These public spaces provide destinations for pedestrians and cyclists. All proposed amenities have been designed to be universally accessible and in many cases celebrate the site's industrial and cultural heritage by recycling relics and integrating existing infrastructure.
